Honey Bees

Honeybees are kept in several locations, including an observation hive inside the Potting Shed where visitors can take a peek at the inside of a working beehive. Honeybees provide reliable pollination services throughout the year, increasing the yields and quality of produce from the vegetable gardens and fruit orchards, and give a boost to many of the landscape plants, too. Each fall, we harvest honey for use in the Farm Canning Kitchen. In 2015, we planted a 10-acre honeybee pasture with Alsike clover on the north end of the property. We’re looking forward to 2016 when the field will be in full production as a major nectar source capable of providing up to 500 pounds of honey per acre.

Honey Bees

Besides serving as pollinators, our bees provide honey that we collect each fall.
